Item #3 under the 11 Assumptions link really caught my eye: “Writing software is an act of craftsmanship.” The author really nailed it. I’ve seen so much “gold plated” software in my life. Software production is an ROI decision, unless you are doing it as a hobby.
My father-in-law loves to build furniture fine furniture. (And he’s really good at it.) But his day job is a commercial real-estate developer. He likes to build solid buildings that he can rent, not architectural dreams. He once told me not to confuse my hobby with my day job.

Gene – Thanks for your “The author really nailed it” comment.
John – Thanks for the link and the comment on my blog. I wasn’t sure how to handle the pingback link, since it showed up as a comment. I cleaned it up a bit … hopefully you feel I kept the spirit of it. thx again. JM
