The author makes no room for products or services such as the Postal Policy. This is important when considering the merits of farm or Amtrak subsidies. It is my claim that the first subsidizes some of the most unhealthy food products in our diets, whle the latter may enhance our competitiveness as a nation.

I’m sure I wouldn’t convince the author that public transit is worth it, but BART is definitely not underutilized. It’s packed to the gills for hours each day. It may still cost more than riders pay, but then so do highways (which I’d bet the author knows).
@tdstephens3, unfortunately, Amtrak has some serious problems with service, at least in the midwest and west, where I’ve used it. It’s a problematic example for the value of public transit.
