Windows sans mouse

Windows sans mouse is a project to help Windows users learn to use their keyboard more and their mouse less. Why would you want to do that? To save time. There's nothing wrong with using a mouse, and sometimes it's absolutely essential. But it's often faster to do without it. See more discussion here.

I've made a Twitter account @SansMouse with daily tips. You might want to get into the habit of relying more on the keyboard by practicing one tip per day. I also have a personal Twitter account @JohnDCook.

If you use an RSS reader such as Google Reader but don't use Twitter, you can subscribe to the SansMouse RSS feed.

I've scheduled SansMouse to post every morning around 9:00. Posts are scheduled through January 2010. Once I get to the end of my queue, I'll start over at the beginning, maybe throwing in a few application-specific shortcuts in addition to the basics. I intend to keep going through these posts in a cycle so people can jump in at any time and eventually learn all the basics.

If you've gone through the cycle once and learned how to use Windows without a mouse, you may want to go through the cycle again to build the habit by concentrating on practice rather than learning. I still use my mouse more often than I'd like and I'm hoping to change my habits by going through my own tips again.

I have four other Twitter tip accounts: @RegexTip for regular expressions, and math accounts @ProbFact, @AnalysisFact, and @AlgebraFact.
