  1. My bookmarks, Reader starred items, e-book collection, and “to read” mails heartily concur ;) !

  2. “The year 2000 was essentially the point at which it became cheaper to analyze information than to understand it.” — John Venier

I was very pleasantly surprised to find out Dyson is still with us. I recall as a kid thinking of him as one of the grand old minds in science.

  3. Collecting (some kinds of) information has been reasonably cheap since the invention of the printing press. Understanding it has always been expensive.

  4. lovely quote! i think it’s more accurately

“Around the year 2000, a turning point was reached, when it became cheaper to produce genetic information than to understand it.” or is there some other citation beside http://www.nybooks.com/articles/archives/2011/mar/10/how-we-know/?pagination=false ?

(i note he said something similar here: http://www.clarkefoundation.org/scholarships/remarks.php ) : “Because of the enormous growth in our ability to store and process information, it is now cheaper to collect information than to understand it. ”

    best regards
